Turning a New Paw
Luna felt too embarrassed to tell her parents about the handsome boy she had glimpsed in the lamplight the night before. All she could do was lower her head and blush.
The dawn vigil had gone well. Luna’s mood had turned sour the minute her parents told her to be home every night before sunset;
“Why?” Luna whined
“Have you forgotten what night does to us?” her father flipped the page of the newspaper and took a slurp of coffee.
Luna attacked her pancakes. They turned to ash in her mouth. “I have to be home because…”
“Exactly,” Iris took a dainty bite of her English Muffin and a sip of tea.
“My life sucks,” Luna said. She took her schoolbag and walked grimly out of the door. “I’ll be going to school now.”
“Have a nice day, honey,” her mother smiled sweetly.
Yeah, if that’s even possible, Luna thought bitterly.
