When they touched down at RAF Northolt there was a emergency medical team waiting on the tarmac. Rachel gave report in the succinct jargon-filled language of experienced medical professionals as they loaded him into the waiting ambulance.
“40 year old male. Out in the African bush, gored by rhino. Field ex lap at a nearby UN camp repaired abdominal arterial bleeding about 36 hours ago. Hypotensive and sepsis post op. Febrile. Got him on 15 mikes of Dopamine with a last BP of 92/48. Fluids have been running wide open since surgery. Urine output’s been marginal, around 20-30 cc’s an hour, since surgery. Maintaining airway & ventilation. GCS of 13 currently.”
