Simple As Midnight

“Not the red ones!” she yelled, flicking on the light and hurrying into the closet.
“Yeah, yeah,” the other said in a rushed voice, looking through the socks that were dumped out on the bedspread.
“The blue ones,” she said, scurrying out from the closet and shutting the door quietly.
The girl searching through the socks grabbed an aqua pair, holding them up with a raised eyebrow. The other girl nodded, fidgeting with her red dress. Chelsea stuck her hand into the sock and quickly pulled out a large wad of crumpled dollar bills. She unrolled the money and quickly started counting.
“I need to get out of this dress!” Jade said through clenched teeth. “It’s driving me crazy!” She walked into the closet once more, clicking on the light with the chain hanging overhead. When she emerged, Jade was wearing a white skirt, orange tank-top, and silver flats, which she made sure stayed on her feet in case she had to run. Chelsea just wore simple blue jeans, a light sweater, and orange Chuck Taylors.
