Alone
“Whoa,” Mark breathed. “A wolf?”
Luna stepped back and growled unintentionally, but she didn’t know his attitude towards wolves. Many people misunderstood them. As she placed her foot down, a sharp pain raced up through her pad and into her thigh. She whimpered.
“What’s wrong, are you hurt?” Mark craned his neck. “You’re bleeding!”
I am? Luna looked at her foot. Sure enough, her pad was split. Ah, I stepped on the twig. Really, I am such an idiot, she swore under her breath.
“I don’t think I should come any closer, but if you’re hurt…” Mark took out his cellphone.”Maybe I should call the rangers.”
Luna’s ears pricked. She couldn’t be discovered. She pounced powerfully and landed right on top of Mark, knocking the cellphone out of his hands. Luna’s heart raced. She quickly got off of him.
Mark scrambled backwards, surprised that she had jumped.
Luna swished her tail, and another jab of pain came from her footpad.
She sat down in a patch of light and started to lick her wound.
