Her Name

Wes called me back later and we agreed to meet at his house. I started to get into my car but for some reason decided against it and grabbed my now seldom-used bike instead.
When I got there he greeted me with a hug and led me upstairs. Wes does not beat around the bush.
“So, what was it you wanted to talk about?â€? he asked, sitting down on the couch.
I sat down next to him, “Just something that occurred to me recently, about homecoming.â€?
“What about it?â€?
“Well, I just remembered that a month ago CC told me you already had a date.â€?
“Oh.â€?
“And I wasn’t sure if it was CC who was confused or something, but if so I need to know.â€?
“No, I had one.â€?
“You did. Ok, um.â€?
“You want to know what happened,â€? it was a statement, not a question.
“Only if you want to tell me, I don’t need to know.â€?
He looked away, “Maybe you do.â€?
He stood up and walked over to the wall, thinking, before turning back to me.
“I had a date, and her name was Dianda…â€?
