The Carpenter and the Tower
Once upon a time there was a carpenter and his beloved wife. They lived in a house on the edge of the woods, a house that the carpenter had built with his own two hands.
They had a good life together. At least, that’s what the carpenter thought. But one day he noticed his wife was a little quieter than usual. When he asked her what was wrong, she said:
I do so wish I had my own tower.
Now, this carpenter loved his wife and hated to see her sad. So the carpenter woke up early the next morning and worked every day for a year until her tower was completed.
Then one day he noticed his wife was a little quieter than usual. When he asked her what was wrong, she said:
I do so wish my tower was taller.
The carpenter hated to see her sad, so he picked up his tools again and extended the tower until it reached 50 stories high.
While his wife was climbing the 50 stories to get to the top, she suddenly slipped and fell to her death. The carpenter grieved her passing so that he never picked up his tools again.
