A Silent Dinner Party
“It’s quiet.”
“Yeah, too quiet.”
“What kind of party is this, anyway?”
“Must be some kinda joke. What day is it?”
“Wednesday.”
“No, I mean like, is it April Fools’ or something?”
“Nope, it’s February.”
“So this is a Valentine’s party?”
“I don’t think so. Nobody’s wearing red or holding hands or giving flowers to their girl.”
“It’s a big table though, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, I guess there’s going to be a meal later.”
“So why’s everybody sitting down now?”
“Beats me. They should be talking though.”
“Nobody’s talking.”
“You think they can hear us?”
“Uh, well, they should…“
“But they’re just ignoring us.”
“They’re ignoring each other, too.”
“Weird, there’s so many people here, and nobody’s saying anything.”
“Sometimes they talk.”
“Well yeah, sometimes.”
“But it’s always a whisper. They never say anything important.”
“Look! Those two, over there. Aren’t those our friends?”
“Yeah, I know them. Why won’t they even look at us?”
“I don’t know, man. This is strange.”
“Let’s just get out of here.”
