when it's time to let go
“It was a long time ago,” he commented.
“So you don’t still think about it? Not at all?” She asked.
“I wouldn’t say I don’t think about it. I just don’t let it dictate my life in the here and now,” he said. “The past is the past. You live it, you learn from it, you move on. You can’t let yourself get stuck in a moment that doesn’t exist anymore. You need to let go.”
“I can’t let go,” she admitted softly.
He sighed. “We are two different people now. We’ve grown up. We’ve moved on. It’s no use to look back and think it could have been different.”
“So if you and I had a chance at this moment, you wouldn’t take it?” She asked.
“No,” he answered. “No, I wouldn’t.”
“Even if neither of us had obligations or anything like that? You honestly wouldn’t even want to try?”
He shook his head. “No. We’re not kids anymore. We’re not the same people we were all those years ago. It wouldn’t be the same.”
“It could be better,” she said. “You never know.”
“Neither of us will ever know,” he replied. “And that’s okay.”
