Familiar, Yet So Strange (Places of My Mind Catena)

Once again, I find myself in this place,
thinking only of you.
The landscape sprawled before me is so familiar, yet so strange;
The broken stalks that veil the dead wheat fields rustle in the gentle breeze,
whispering the intricate, tangled enigma of my mind.
Fallen branches are scattered across the frozen ground,
having long since departed from their conception.
The trees are glazed with an adornment of icicles,
some drops caught in mid-tumble,
creating an art so stunning that it’s impossible to recreate.

Even these miraculous sights fail to distract me from my thoughts of you;
your smile, your touch, your presence.
I cannot deny my intense longing for you,
the ache my heart feels every second of my existence.
I have become almost delirious in your absence,
How much longer can I stand?
All that I can do is hope;
hope you will return,
and hope we will be together again.
