Sword Mistress (A City of Heroes Story)
She could hear the robots as they turned towards her. They had her surrounded.
Just where she wanted them.
During the years she had spent learning to fight blind, her sensei had taught her to focus her will through her blades. She reached inside herself, and drew forth that energy. As she did, she stuck left, then right, then reversed her blades and stabbed backwards.
The blows struck true, but did no damage. They weren’t meant to.
Now, she knew where all three stood. In a flash, almost too quick for the eye to follow, she held her blades out, leaped up, and spun like a ballerina on fast forward. As she did, she released her will into her swords.
Once, twice, thrice, and more. In less than a heartbeat, she had struck each robot a half dozen times or more. She landed lightly on the balls of her feet, blade crossed against her chest.
The three robots, designed to withstand even armour piercing shells, stopped, shuddered for a moment, then collapsed. Reduced to so much scrap.
“No! NO! NOT MY CHILDREN !”
