Loot
Larry whistled softly.
“How much you think is in there”?
I looked down again.
“I don’t know”. “Those are fifty dollar bills- stacks of ‘em”.
“I bet there’s a million dollars in there. Maybe two million”,
Larry said. His eyes were getting real big. He looked like the sunfish my baby sister catches at the lake.
“You know what this means, Will?”, he said. “We’re rich!”
“You’re a dummy, Larry,” I said. “You think somebody’s gonna just leave all this money here for us to find? You know somebody will come looking for it”.
“Yeah, I guess”, Larry said, looking thoughtful. “I wonder who’s it is. Maybe he’s a mafia guy”
“In our little hick town?”, I asked, rolling my eyes. “You -”
But Larry wasn’t listening. He was looking behind me. His eyes had grown big again, but now he didn’t look like a sunfish. He was scared to death.
I turned to look behind me.
