Beauty

Ask a question, get too many answers
And you’re never sure what is true
“Beauty,” she breathed, she wanted to know
just what is beauty to you?

Some say the girl who stands alone
with wind blown through her hair
with sparkling eyes and a figure slim
with lips and cheeks so fair.

“The world,” some argue,
“and Nature’s land—that’s true beauty to me
for she; she is our mother home
no sweeter place could there be.”

Neither answer is wrong—
there’s no plain truth to see
but I believe neither answer
is an example of real beauty.

She’s not the thinnest creature,
and his looks won’t make you swoon
but listen, softly, listen—
their hearts are both in tune.

Watch them smile, watch them laugh
they’ve got the rarest gift—
two smiling souls feeling just as one,
a love that’s oh, so swift.

You’re entitled to your own belief
I won’t try to change your mind
but when I search for true beauty—
it’s love that I find.
