Meet the parents
I was so absorbed in my own thoughts that i almost forgot to tell my parents Lucy was coming over.
“Hey mom?”
“Yes, honey?”
“Is it ok if a friend of mine comes over today?”
I forced the words out of me. It didn’t even feel like i’d said them.
“Er, sure honey. What’s your friend’s name?”
My heart was thumping loudly against my chest. I didn’t know what she would say if she knew a girl friend would be visiting.
I barely said her name, “Lucy”
“Oh, a girl? Is she nice? We better make sure the house is clean. Make your bed and make sure you take a shower and-”
“I did mom, don’t worry, i have everything under control.”
Thank God…
I was still afraid she wouldn’t like Lucy, but I kept telling my self it wouldn’t matter. I would date her even if mom didn’t accept. I’d almost given my dad no thought, because of the simple unwritten “Father-son” rule. Ya know, the “Have fun, but not too much fun” attitude.
The doorbell rang. I answered to see not Lucy, but her mother.
