What Andy is, and You are Not.
“Andy,”I said and then paused, looking for the right words,”Andy is, well, amazing.”
Blake turned back to me, a question in his eyes.
“You know?”I continued,”He’s always there for you when you need him. He’s been my friend for, well, forever. But Andy has his problems. He suffers from depression… but he fights it, Blake. He does everything he possibly can to fight it. That’s what makes an Andy. The will to be better, the will to try.”
Blake opened his mouth to speak, but I held up my hand to stop him and continued,”You might think you’re trying as hard as you can but you’re not. Blake, not to sound discouraging, but you’ve got a long way to go before you can be my Andy.”
I grabbed my bike but paused for jumping on it, “You know, you may be surprised how many other guys don’t really want to drink either. Or smoke, actually.”
He looked confused, “How did-”
“I’ve noticed the smell on your breath before; I just never really wanted to believe it. Just give it all a shot, ok?”
I left before he could answer.
