Ficlets

Walking in a Ficlet Wonderland

I’ve never been one for sappy speeches or undue melodrama.

Every ficlet is like a snowflake, beautiful and unique in its own right, a tiny sparkling crystalline treasure. But together they form a vast winter wonderland, accumulating in bluffs and branches, forming families of snowmen and snow angels, a veritable playground for the creative sledder.

A good challenge is an invitation to throw snowballs with friends, a continuing series becomes a cherished fort. This place is for the curious homebody to catch a flake on her tongue before returning to the warmth of the fire, and we’re happy for her visit; yet those of us who wish to stay and play awhile longer will never grow bored with the company or games here.

Sure, there are times when Jack Frost swoops in and a blizzard of stories guarantees yours will be lost in the flurry. Or the unwelcome sun shines too hot for a moment and briefly, just briefly, we begin to melt. But it’s those times when we learn to adhere to one another, and our bonds grow stronger.
