The Final Solution

“She killed herself,” Carolyn said aloud, to no one. What’s this on the floor? Two notes? Why two? As she began to read the one with her name on it, she began to feel something. It was like regret, but it was a hint of sadness. A fury, but a bit of guilt, She was unsure what it was, but she read on anyway. ‘Trisha, hide this note somewhere safe. Do not let the police see this note; there is one that they need to see to clarify all this. This is from me to you girl. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Also, I forgive you. You truly are an exceptional woman. Please do not allow this incident to hinder you. Do deal with it. Please remember, your success in life is no longer just for you, it’s for me too.’ Carolyn hid the note, burying it in the backyard.

It’s been five years since the Valentine’s Day Massacre, as the news dubbed it. Carolyn is very successful, but she is a a lot more guarded. She is more careful in dealing with other people. However, instead of flowers and chocolates, she visits Trisha every year.
