Alone
I stood there, as Ashley threw her arm around Jack and kissed him.
I felt sick, like my head was going to explode.
I’m happy for her, but I’ll always hate that.
I looked back one last time, and Ashley and Jack were looking at me with concern.
“You okay?” Jack said.
“No.” I said evenly. “I think I’ll be going now.”
“Where are you going?” Ashley asked.
“I really don’t know.” I said. “Anywhere but where I am right now.”
“You can come in.” Jack said. “Stay for a while, we’ll have a drink.”
I did appreciate his hospitality, I really did, but I couldn’t.
“No thanks.” I said, and turned to Ashley. “I’m sorry to say that she is you, but I am not him.”
“You’ll find her.” She said reassuringly.
Did you not listen to what I just said?
“Yeah, okay.” I said, waving. “See you around.”
I turned in a random direction, and started walking. I didn’t exactly know where, but I really needed some time alone.
