Hide and Seek (part 3)
When I got to the corner, I peeked around. There was no shadow. The lights were off. He wasn’t there. That meant that I had just left my back exposed to him if he came around the other side. I spun around, waiting for an attack. No one was there. I turned again and started walking down the driveway, hoping I wouldn’t slip on any ice. But, he wasn’t around that corner either.
The sound of snow beneath shoes sounded behind me and I froze. I could feel my eyes widen, the hairs on my neck stand on end, my hands grip the shed’s paneling tightly. I slowly turned, but there was no one there.
I let out a sigh and backtracked. I returned to “my spot” behind the shed. Leaning up against it once again, I tried to calm myself down. My heart was racing and it was difficult to concentrate. Something about the fact that he was following me, watching me, sent me into an excited panic. I loved being chased by him, partly because I knew he’d always come after me and partly because I knew he’d always catch me.
