We're In This Together
I saw a guy with a camera hanging around his neck follow me as I walked back into the hospital.
I do NOT have time for this!
I could almost feel the minutes counting down. The more time I spent here, the faster I would have to run. I went into the bathroom and just stood there, trying to judge how long he would wait before leaving.
When I walked out he was nowhere in sight. I sighed with relief. I walked back out of the hospital and to the road, I was just about to start off when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I jumped.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
I turned around. “Nick! What are you doing here? Why aren’t you with the others?”
“They’ve already gone to 7/11. But I couldn’t let you do this alone.”
“But-” I started.
“Wes, what if something happened to you? You don’t even have your cell phone! We’re in this together.”
I hadn’t thought about that. “Nick, we have to hurry…”
“I know.” he said. “Believe it or not I ran track too.”
We both started running down the road.
