Stay on Track (Daniel Gate)
“Move!” Dan shouted without explaining any further.
Lucas unbuckled his seat belt and slid along the seat to the passenger’s side. At the same time, Dan slid underneath him, keeping pressure on the accelator until his friend was out of the way.
“Buckle up and keep your head down,” Dan ordered.
Lucas meekly sunk down in his seat. “When did my life turn into the Bourne Identity?”
“Apologies and explanations will have to wait,” Daniel replied. After a few more sharp turns down obscure, narrow streets, he relaxed minimally. “Looks like they’re not following for now.” He pulled out his cell phone and speed dial.
“It would be too optimistic to think you’re calling the cops, wouldn’t it?” Lucas said.
Dan ignored him as the phone continued to ring. “No one’s picking up. The gunmen must have gone into the club.”
“Now can we call the cops?” Lucas asked. “There are innocent people in there, right?”
“They know how to defend themselves. We’ve got to keep going.”
