He lay in the dirt for almost an hour. Making sure they had gone. He hurt all over. They hadn’t even hit him that many times. But he was small, not very strong. Not as strong as they were.

He sat up. Too fast. A wave of nausea hit him, and he was barely able to avoid puking on himself. He should have been concerned with the fact that there was a little blood mixed in with everything else, but something caught his attention.

He crawled over to the nearby bush and peered under it. There was something flashing under it. He reached under and pulled out a black, metal box. It had a clear top, plexiglass he figured, and inside was a circuit board. One of the LEDs on the board was what had caught his attention.

The nerd in him took over, and his fascination over-rode any pain he was still feeling. He slipped the box in his bag and limped home, his mind already working on the problem of connecting the box up to his computer and finding out exactly what it was.
