The apartment manager reached out to shake my hand. “Like I said on the phone, your brother didn’t pay rent this month. You’re on his list of contacts, you even co-signed on the lease.â?
“So, you want to get paid.â? I said, motioning for him to unlock the door. “Let me into his place.â?
He unlocked the door. “The reason I called you is, well yes, I want to get paid. Thing is, your brother is normally very consistent with his rent.â?
“News to me. He’s never been very responsible.â?
“Look, man. He pays his rent four or five days late every month. I like him; I look the other way. Don’t charge a late fee. That’s why I’m so disturbed. It has been three weeks now.â?
“I’ll pay his rent first thing tomorrow. As for now, could I have some privacy?â?
