Since they were children. Since they were children they’d been climbing up the same old tree behind Barbara’s backyard. It was like a routine. Every other day at 3 in the afternoon, they ate cookies Jonathan’s mom made at his house, they’d ride their bikes to Barbara’s house and sit up in the tree until Barb’s mom made her come down do her homework. At that point, Jon would go home and do his homework.
6 years later, Jon turned 12. Nothing was really quiet the same after that. Kids always teased them.
“Jonny and Barbie, sitting in a tree, K.I.S.S.I.N.G.”
After all…the only inaccurate part was the “Kissing” part.
So, that year, everything changed for them. She developed a crush on him. He started liking her as well..but they were too ashamed to admit it. Over the years, they lost touch and never saw or spoke to each other anymore. Specially during High School.
Now, Jon was 18, she was 17, at the end of their Senior year. Ready to go to College.
