Fight or Flight

I shivered a little and walked on. We were walking for quite a while, and I tried to start a conversation with Colleen, but she seemed pretty angry at me.
After about another hour, I saw torches in the distance. I jumped up and down in my excitement.
“It’s the town!” I whispered loudly.
I was about to run forwards but Colleen swiftly grabbed me.
“Those torches are moving.” She said flatly.
NO!!!
Out of instinct, I jumped into the nearest bush, dragging Colleen with me. Every muscle in my body was tense, I was ready to either fight or run.
I heard mumbling, and some shuffling in the leaves. I didn’t hear much, but I did catch some:
“Adelio-”
“Escaped prisoners-”
“Nowhere near-”
I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest. I was afraid someone would hear it. Colleen’s expression was impassive, emotionless.
We have to get out here. NOW
