He Knows
They were at a New Years Eve party in mid-town; someone had just air-kissed her goodbye. Jolee felt herself turning flush, intense heat from her core building to an inferno. She hurried to the door, gasping for air as her spindly legs threatened to buckle.
She glanced around, unwelcome eyes everywhere. She dared not look again, kept the offending gadget in her pocket, needing a stiff drink.
“He Knows.â?
That was what the message had said. Simple, straightforward, cryptic. The phone was burning a hole in her garment where it lay.
She stepped to the curb as the doorman put up his arm to hail a taxi. At the last second she saw it, but there was little she could do to stop it.
