I saw you the other day. Just walking around town I passed you. I recognized you instantly. How could I not?

I’ve thought about you every day for twenty years.

The first time I met you, it was love at first sight. I knew that you were the one I wanted to be with. The one I wanted to share my life with. Together until death do us part.

Every time I was around you, I felt weak. My heart fluttered at the sight of you. My breathing became erratic. Everything disappeared except you. I tried to hide it, but I was sure everyone knew. I was certain they all laughed at me – the little lost puppy.

Then graduation came. We said our goodbyes. I was staying here, you were off to university on the other side of the country. May as well have been the other side of the planet. We promised we would stay in touch. We promised we would get together whenever you came home. We never did.

I never forgot you. Never stopped loving.

And when I saw you with your husband, I walked by. I made sure you even never knew I was there.
