“We need to go further” she announced, after they sat in silence for a bit.
“When ever you’re ready” he said getting up from the damp bench.
She climbed through the gate that separated the trail from a private field. They followed a light footed path that followed the tree line south about five hundred yards. At the break in the fence, they turned east and followed another path up a steeper hill through thicker forest towards the clearing and into the open sky. They spilled out onto the abandoned farmer’s field at the top of the trail. You can see for miles in all directions. It’s quiet except for the wind and the occasional blackbird hanging off the tall grass.
She led him to a presise location on the front slope of the area. Pulling her orb from the safety of her bossom, she told him to come over and they will try to see if they might be a match. They sat together on his jacket, ‘room enough’, he thought. They each had their orbs lying in their palms. Hers now a bright orange, his a deep red.
