Ring and Jump
He dropped to his knees, a rock in the river of people around him, all doing their best not to look. He could feel it closing in in him, the ringing in his ears drowning out everything else, cold sweat soaking his shirt. He couldn’t believe it was happening already. Not this soon. He slumped over further, onto his elbows. All he could hear now was the buzz. The light was blinding. He just need to close his eyes, let it fall away.
He found himself back in his room, face up on the couch with his friend standing over him, in shock. The buzz faded away as he pulled himself up, his friend’s hand on his shoulder.
“What happened? What’d I do?”
His friend stammered for a second, still gaping at him.
“Wh- wherever you were, you weren’t here.” A awkward pause. “Why were you screaming?”
That’s when the ringing started again.
