Actually, the lottery part was there from the beginning. I added the whole (it was actually Mendez who answered the phone element). These first 3 are actually the first 3 things I wrote. All by hand on the same day after listening to one of the best writers I know give a lecture. (Of course, without the changes I made today). So, suffice it so say, this was my genesis as a creative writer.
