Accelerated Heartbeats
It had been three days and Jodi still hadn’t called. I was absolutely stir crazy, so I hoped catching a movie would be a good escape. It was the perfect opportunity to stop thinking about Jodi and how she’d blown me off. Is this her way of telling me she doesn’t like me?
“I’ll never understand girls,” I said. Tom gave me a quizzical look. I’d forgotten that he couldn’t read my thoughts. I decided to explain why I hadn’t left the dorm in three days.
“I told you. You shouldn’t have called her.”
“Thanks for the moral support.”
“What are friends for?”
The theater wasn’t very crowded, which was great because I didn’t want anyone to see Tom and I watch The Notebook. As I reached for popcorn, I felt another hand grazing my own.
“Hey, you’ve got your own popcorn,” I said, sharply.
Tom shook his head gravely, pointed behind me.
I turned.
“Hiya, Jordan.”
Jodi! My heartbeat accelerated as my mind quickly galloped away. I tried desperately to find words. “Uh, hi,” I managed with considerable effort.
