Arming Mechanisms
The carbot was all business. “Where, how many.”
The SUVbot pointed up the road. “Two from that direction.” He pointed the other way. “One from there. No others detected.”
“Only three? We can take ‘em.” Panels flipped around on the carbot’s forearm, and he was suddenly holding a rifle. A bazooka assembled itself in the SUVbot’s hands out of parts from its back, legs, and arm.
I put out my hand, accessed my interior schematics for my weapon—and a panel on my leg popped open and a small pistol slid out. “This is it? Oh you gotta be kidding me!”
Not that I actually wanted to use my weapon, if you got right down to it. If the “inbound” were Aegis, the “good guys,” I had no beef with them. I might be an uberhacker, but I’m not psychotic. The Marauders were major bad juju, and the quicker I could get rid of them the better. On the other hand, I was in a Marauder body right now, and that could lead to unnecessary confusion.
But maybe there would be opportunities. I’d have to wait and see.
