Maleable History (XXV)
Albrecht! I thought. “No. No, I had it finalized that you four killed him. He’s dead.”
“Actually, David,” Adrovan finally spoke, “that’s not quite correct.”
“Dave,” Alex asked me, “did you initially plan for Albrecht to return at some future point?”
I thought about it. Albrecht was a recurring foe the group had fought off and on over the years. But about a year and a half ago, I put them through a campaign that climaxed with them defeating Albrecht. He was dead in the game, but…
“Initially, yeah,” I said. “I had planned to bring him back one more time.”
Alex looked at Adrovan. “That explains it,” he said to the old wizard. He turned back to me. “What we do in game affects what happens here. Once an event passes, it’s set. It can’t be retconned, or it throws everything into chaos here.”
“Retconned?” Jaime asked.
“Retroactive continuity,” Will said. “Like what Lucas did with Star Wars.”
“Right. But here, it has much worse effects than a few pissed off fans.”
“Yes,” Adrovan sighed. “Much worse.”
