On the brink of death
I sat inside the elevator-sized escape pod silently, trying to accept what was coming… my death, the Arvians’ eventual sucess in conquering Earth.
The moniter came on and the admiral’s face appeared. “Alright Duke, the bomb is set to detonate in percisely one hour. Do what you wish with it once you’re on the mothership. It can’t be disarmed, at least not within an hour… and should you suceed, which i see no reason for you not to, you will be remembered as a hero, although accused of treason. Hell, you might make it to the hall of fame. Just be glad your death is for the right cause.”
With that, he smirked and the screen went black. I waited silently for the thrusters of the escape pod to ignite, but they didnt. As time passed, i became curious and called out, “Hey, anyone there?”
Not a second after I’d said it, the door of the escape pod was opened, and Ashley climbed in.
“What are you doing?!”
“Just shut up and put your fasten your seatbelt, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.”
I heard the thrusters ignite
