First Fight (XXXV)

“Cassia, my goddess, defendi!” Jaime shouted. Instantly, a shimmering field surrounded each of us. That was a defencive spell she was preparing.

“Come on, ye motherless sons of trolls!” Robert yelled. He was really getting into this Dwarf thing!

Will, Sir Eric to the core, said nothing. He pulled his shield, marked with the Fairwind family crest, from his back, and drew Windsinger. His descriptions in our gaming sessions of the sword ringing like a pure crystal bell were nothing compared to actually hearing it!

And me? I was a wizard! I was Delisu Adrovan, 4th Wizard, and Master of the Golden Tower! This called for power, not subtlety. I pointed my staff at the largest concentration of soldiers. Flamo kolono! A column of flame, reaching a hundred feet into the sky, reduced almost two dozen soldiers to ash in seconds.

“Enough!” a deep, commanding voice ordered. The soldiers put away their weapons and bowed. We all turned to face Albrecht. With Alex at his side!
