Two On One (XLII)
Alex and I, unfortunately, weren’t having quite so easy a time of it. Yes, the demon was stronger than Albrecht, but Albrecht wasn’t nearly so arrogant.
It was all Alex and I could do to keep from being slice by that crimson blade. The magic of the blade, combined with the magic infused into his armour, made him incredibly fast. Faster, probably, than even the demon could be.
I knew a spell that could temporarily, at least, negate that advantage. But every time I started casting it, I was interrupted by a well timed strike from Albrecht.
Alex had his twin daggers out, and tried to strike Albrecht when his attention was on me. Again, Albrecht’s supernatural speed was his advantage. No sooner would he disrupt my spell, then he would turn and strike at Alex. And Albrecht had the advantage of reach.
I knew, and I’m sure they knew, that it was only a matter of time before one of us slipped up. And with the magical aid he had, it probably wouldn’t be Albrecht. And one slip would cost Alex or me our lives.
