Albrecht's End (XLVI)
Steel and Magic was a strategy we had discussed during a role-playing session that we thought, if the game were real, would work fairly well. Now, we had a chance to prove it. We surrounded Albrecht, Jaime and I, the two spellcasters, opposite each other, Will and Robert, the same.
The attacks came fast and furious. Albrecht was doing all he could to defend himself. Whenever he tried to attack one of the warriors, he would be struck by spells. If he attempted to take out Jaime or I, he would find himself beset by furious strikes from mystic and Dwarven steel.
With each attack, we shifted our positions slightly clockwise, but always staying opposites. Finally, I found my opening. Malsukceso! I cried, and Albrecht suddenly found himself without the aid of his magic items.
“Now!” Will yelled, leaping forward, sword at the ready. Albrecht stumbled back in an effort to avoid the attack.
And found himself hamstrung by an axe. Without a word, Will stepped forward and, in one stroke, took Albrecht’s head.
