Night Swim Cut Short
“Ouch.”
That wasn’t a hand around her ankle at all.
Kim felt a searing pain and then it was gone. She pulled her knee to her chin and gently ran her hands down both sides of her leg until she got to her ankle.
She slowly pushed her hands lower and felt … nothing.
“This can’t be happening,” she said to herself.
She closed her eyes and saw the opening sequence of that movie she watched over thirty years ago with Richard Dreyfuss in it.
It was her first date with Tom. A year later they were married. Two kids and three decades had gone by and she was more in love today than on her wedding. Now it was over.
Kim opened her eyes and saw the dull white fin gliding quickly toward her.
