The Doctor's Words: You Have Cancer

I will always remember that day. I remember it as vividly as if it were yesterday. (hmmm, it was yesterday…) It was a normal day. I was lounging around, and then I had to go to the doctor’s office. The check up started as a normal appointment, and then they took some of my blood- just to run “a few tests.” God I hate those words. Nothing good ever succeeds them. They should refraise them. Maybe a nice “Lets see what’s wrong this time” would be better.

I was fine waiting. And, having nothing better to do, I went into the reception area and sat in one of the many plush armchairs. No wonder doctor’s charge you so much. I mean, they spend it all on their waiting room chairs, and on magazines.

My name was being called. I walked into the check up room, and waited to close the door once the doctor was in. The words he said brought shivers down my back:

“I’m sorry, but you have cancer.”
