The Grave

I stand there, away. I just need a moment to regroup. Take this all in. But my grieve is miniscule to hers. I walk over and sit right beside this girl who’s life will be forever changed.

“That was nice.”

“Maddie, I don’t need this right now.”

“Need what?”

“You telling me that better days will come.”

“I just…”

“Maddie just stop… please just stop.”, she has her knees up with her arms resting on them. Her head goes down and she takes a deep breath and her head comes back to the surface, “Right now it feels like better days don’t exist. Now, can you understand that?”

“Rainey…”

“I just need to be alone.”

“I don’t think that’s such a good idea, right now.”

Rainey gets up and stands.

“Rainey, please…please let’s just talk.”

“All you ever want to do is talk now, I don’t want to talk anymore.”

“I’m just worried about you…”

“Don’t be.”

“I…”

“Maddie, I don’t think we should be friends anymore.”

“Wait… What?”

She runs away. Away from me. Away from the cemetery. Away from her life.
