Awakening
His eyes open, but his vision is obscured by bandages. What happened to me? he thinks.
He tries to move, but whatever he’s lying on, he’s strapped down to it. Arms, legs, chest, even a strap across his forehead. He can feel them when he moves, even through the bandages that cover his body.
My, God! he thinks. What happened to me? The last thing I remember is… is…
But try as he might, he can’t remember. He can’t recall where he was. What he was doing. He can’t even remember his name.
He starts to struggle, fear gripping him. Along with the bandages and straps, he feels a new sensation. Stitches. Everywhere on his body are stitches. As though he had been through a horrific accident, and they had to piece him together.
Then he hears someone moving around. They’re near by, but he can’t tell where, exactly, until one of the strangers undoes the bandages on his hand. He stretches and flexes his stiff fingers.
Then, one of them speaks. And the words send a chill through him.
“It’s alive! Alive!“
