Just A Little Flinch

I felt my face growing hot. After she was done laughing at me, she walked over and plucked the oinion off my ear. I really have no idea how it got there and must have looked geniounly surprised. She began laughing again, shaking her head.
Her: Drew, what am I going to do with you?
Still chuckling she began dicing what was left of the mashed tomatoes. cutting them quickly and easily, spinning them into the bowl with ridiculous ease.
Me: I don’t get how you can do that.
Her: You learn, when your Dad stops thinking and your Mom…
she stopped. I tried to think of a different subject that wouldn’t involve how much her life sucked. School brought up how many times she’d moved, food brought up fending for herself, family brought up everything, so I went with the famous fail-free line.
Me: So… the weather’s nice.
After a 5 minute sarcastic discussion on the weather, she left, going to check on her dad to make sure he hadn’t, in her words, ‘died or something.’
Hearing the way she said it made me flinch.
