Ficlets

Hidden Fixes

Ardith smiled as she brushed her hair and carefully put on more lip shine. It had been a long day.
She turned off the flashlight and let her eyes get used to the gloom. The stacks of books muffled sound so well she felt it was safe to tiptoe over to the door and put her ear to the crack between it and the wall.
The sloshing sounds on the other side told her nothing had changed. She sighed silently and rolled her eyes just a little bit.
Back she tiptoed to her hidey hole at the end of stack 20. Nestling under her blanket, she turned the flashlight back on and rummaged through her micro bag for her needle and thread. The ribbon on her left ballet flat was unravelling. Couldn’t let that continue. What if it caught in something. Left fibers behind. All bad.
She threaded the needle with red thread. That’s what she liked to do. Any mending or fixed used red. Ardith figured fixes and mends shouldn’t be hidden. She had had enough of hidden fixes.
