Chapter Unknown--A Journey Begins And Ends
Sarah started her little red Honda. She’d find Kiley the only way she knew how—she’d drive to Boston and search until she found her friend.
Sarah knew she had a good four days of driving ahead of her, but there was no way she could afford to fly. As she accelerated onto I-15 and pointed herself toward Utah, she steeled her resolve. She would say her piece, every word. And she would be certain that Kiley listened to every single word.
The desert landscape didn’t change as Sarah followed the Colorado River into southern Utah. Sarah had never been one for deserts, which was odd considering where she grew up. That was why she couldn’t wait to get through the desert and into the mountains that waited in Colorado.
But long before Colorado, Sarah heard something that concerned her. Her car had always made some strange sounds, but the popping it made now was new. Before she could decide what to do, Sarah heard the popping change to silence.
She pulled to the side of the road. The car was dead.
