Family Now
“Alright,” I sighed, “I’m gonna go find them.”
Kevin and Nick nodded, without words.
I wanted to get to Wes, because I needed to get her out of the depression she was in. I just hoped Joe was trying to do the same.
I found them on the dock. Wesley was sitting with her head in her hands, crying her eyes out. Joe was sitting next to her, his arms around her.
Joe looked up and saw me. He motioned for me to come over.
“Wesley,” I said, kneeling down beside her. She looked up, her black hair hanging in front of her tear streaked face.
“It’s gonna be okay,” I told her, “We’re not going to leave you.”
She thrust her arms around my neck, “Oh, Emily. I’m never gonna see my aunt again!” she wept, “But I don’t ever wanna leave you and Joe and Nick and Kevin.”
“Don’t worry, Wes,” I gently told her, “We’re your family now.”
Joe smiled.
