The letter sent but never returned

Tick tock, tick tock, the sounds of the minutes passing by on my clock, thumping in my ears as I try to think of a sensible way to start a letter for Davy Jones. “Hi there Davy, I’m your biggest fan!â€?, or “Why hello there you strapping young lad, you are a great inspiration for the nation of America, as well as the entire worldâ€?. Funnily enough, none of these made the cut; it just seems as if there is no appropriate manor to write a fan letter.
“You know it’s all a waste of time.â€? my best friend Cameron tried to explain to me as we walked to school on Monday.
“It is not!â€? I replied in my defense. “My16th birthday is in two weeks and I really want the Monkees to play at my party, well mostly Davy.â€? I said with a grin on my face.
“They’re not going to come you know? They have more important things to do.â€?
I ignored his remarks and concentrated that in just two weeks, the 26th of August 1967, would be my 16th birthday! I would be 16, me! Well the TV always said this is the age to be.
