“I’m happy to see you too.”
He’d be more concerned, but Bill was well aware of how Mike’s sense of humor worked.
On cue, Mike burst into hollow laughter, lowering the gun.
“Bill, my friend! It’s been forever. I assume you’re here because of my message, yes? Excellent.”
He slid behind his opulent desk, the dark polished wood in stark contrast with the stained carpet and missing ceiling tiles.
“I need you to do a little something for me. I’m sure you’re up for it, from what I’ve heard about your most recent … adventures.”
Bill stared back at him coldly.
“I’ve had some difficulties with some of my past business partners, and I would like them to disappear. It seems you have no qualms with killing, and in this case that works to my advantage.”
It was Bill’s turn to laugh, causing Mike’s smile to fade.
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
Bill’s .44 revolver rose up to Mike’s chest, three flashes, three red spots appearing on his dress shirt, a scream from the secretary outside.
Now for his daring escape.
