Some Foreign Field
“This is the first time I’ve ever been abroad Roger.” Frida said, trying to take her mind of the circumstances in which she was holidaying.
“Shush Frida, call me Dieter, and we only talk in German from now on.” He chastised, slipping easily into a flawless German accent.
“Sorry.” She answered. “I can’t believe half of what Winston, or whoever that was said to me.”
“You shouldn’t, some of it wasn’t true, walls have ears, even in U-Boats. Have you heard of bouncing bombs?”
“Yes, everyone has.”
“Of course, the war’s worst kept secret, but they aren’t meant to be a secret, the real secret is that they don’t work. And in 2 days time they’re going to be dropped on a dam not far from here.”
“But you said they don’t work.”
“No, but the German spies don’t know that, and while the officers guard their dam from aerial attacks we’ll blow it up from the inside. It’ll be one of the most important events of the war and great propaganda for the allies. This could be the turning point of the entire allied war effort.”
