The statement, Reading is a Virtue, came from my moms boyfriend Tim, I call him dad. He would always say to me: Reading is a virtue. I never really took in what he meant until one day when I decided to bake some cookies for me and my friends over the weekend. Ii didn’t really read the recipe for the first time, because I could recite it backwards by now. Well, I thought wrong, I put the cookies in at the wrong temperature and they got burnt. Luckily that was only the first batch, and we were only twelve cookies short. But when I told my dad about it, all he did was shake his head, wink, and say: Reading is a Virtue. That day I knew, that day, I agreed. Now, I understand this as one of my Laws of Life. For that time, the consequence was only a dozen burnt cookies, but who knows what the consequence would’ve been if I did not learn from that experience.
