Popped The Question
I decided to trust him. He didn’t smell like he was drunk, he could walk a straight line, and his speech was normal. And even if he were drunk, there wasn’t much you could do to an Aspirin that would be too entirely stupid or hurtful.
“The cabinet above the sink has the Aspirins – can you grab them? I got the water.” I filled up the paper cups with water from the sink.
There was just small talk between us as we were balancing everything, but we got so involved in our conversation that we didn’t leave the kitchen. We ended up setting the stuff down on the counter, I grabbed a seat at her dining table, and he pulled another chair up next to me. My muscles tensed – our legs were touching, we were that close.
Out of nowhere, he popped the question: “Are you still going out with that Bryan guy?”
“What?! No! I dumped him, like, months ago.”
His shoulders relaxed.
