Macy 34: Friends

Macy could see the wave of pain cross his face with her words. She winced at it, his pain, for she hated causing it.

“Are…are you sur…serious?” Derrick asked.

Macy slightly nodded, then looked at the ground. “Yes.” She couldn’t lie to his face, of course. That would be too unbearable.

“Macy, you’re a terrible liar. Did Shane put you up to this?” Just then, her cell phoe vibrated and she opened the text…from Shane.

tell him and leave. i’ll be waiting at our spot.

Macy sighed and continued, “Derrick, I’m sorry, it’s just not working out.”

“Macy, everything is going fine. Now did Shane put you up to this or didn’t he? I should kick his a-”

“Derrick stop. Okay. We are better off as just friends. Now I got to go so I’ll see you later.” She disappeared into the trees, without sparing a goodbye. But Derrick followed her silently. When she reached Shane further off, he smiled as she approached. “Wipe that grin-” she began but he seized her wrist. “Ouch, let go.”
